Race a Duck or Turtle

Racing Turtles like to train in the kitchen sink.

If you want to have an advantage in the Great Canal Critter Race, get you racing ducks and turtles now. Some practice laps in your kitchen sink or bath tub could give your critter the lead when he's dumped into the Canal on race day.

His competition will be hundreds of other rubber ducks and turtles that will make their way down the Canal from the Letchworth Avenue Bridge to the finish line at Lock 5.

Ducks and turtles may be obtained at any upcoming Friends' event or at the Locktender's House at 145 South Main Street in New Hope. They are also available at these locations in downtown Yardley - Customers Bank, 1 South Main Street and Fun Matters, 35 South Main Street. A Training Tip Sheet is provided with each critter.

A contribution of $5 per duck or turtle is requested. If you would like more than one contender, 5 critters may be claimed for a donation of $20. Proceeds benefit the Friends' maintenance and improvement efforts.

And don't forget to bring your fit-as-a-fiddle racers back on the day of the big Race. They will be collected in a container located near the Afton Avenue Bridge, then taken to the start at the Letchworth Avenue Bridge. Loud cheering during the Race is permitted.

The Delaware Canal Festival has something for everyone.

It's free, and it's fun. Come on out for all the events!
